Building Virtual Worlds

Building Virtual Worlds is a project course, where interdisciplinary teams build immersive interactive virtual worlds, as well as a variety of other interactive content. The course uses Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) platforms, such as the Jam-O-Drum, camera-based audience interaction techniques, Quasi the robot, and others. The goal of the course is to take students with varying talents, backgrounds, and perspectives and put them together to do what they couldn't do alone.

Tale of the Lunar Moth

Tale of the Lunar Moth can best be described as a short fairy tale told through digital puppets on an interactive projector called the Playmotion.

It was selected to be shown in front of over 500 people at the 2005 Building Virtual Worlds show.

Misdemeanor Mayhem

Misdemeanor Mayhem is a short videogame that utilizes a head-mounted display (HMD) in conjunction with hand-held motion tracker.  It was made in just 7 days.

You play as a neighborhood punk hanging out the sunroof of a car with a bat, smashing mailboxes and generally anything else you can reach.

Tippin' the Bus

Tippin' the Bus was an audience interaction piece that used image differencing technology to allow many participants to work together within the experience.

The general goal for the audience was to try to tip the school bus on sharp turns by leaning from side to side.

This project was also selected for the 2005 BVW show.

Hit or Miss

Hit or Miss was another audience interaction project in which the audience could phone in and be a contestant on a game show.

Roomba Run

Roomba Run was another HMD game.  The basic goal was to help a dust bunny escape from an evil dust-consuming Roomba.
